Green Light for £30m Development in Hull City Centre

Plans for a new £30m multi-storey development in Hull city centre have been given a two-year planning approval by councillors, the Hull Daily Mail reports. The scheme will include residential space for mixed apartments, town houses, a gym, and six ground floor commercial units.

The site is bordered by Ferensway, Spencer Street, and Prospect Street. It includes the former Circus Circus nightclub in Spencer Street, the Shirethorn House office complex in Prospect Street, and derelict land fronting Ferensway. The site will be completely cleared to make way for the redevelopment.

The plans were submitted by Feather Foot Holdings, and have been granted provisional planning permission by Hull City Council, on the condition that work starts on the site within two years. Committee chairman Councillor Alan Gardiner said: “With the towers being proposed, I think it will bring a real wow factor to the area.”

However, a note of caution was cast by Councillor John Fareham, who welcomed the redevelopment of the site, but thought that the design of the high-rise buildings needed to be more ‘distinctive and dramatic.’

Feather Foot director Steve Crane said: “Hull City Council still has a positive and forward-looking view and that has provided us with confidence to invest in the city. Collaboration has been key to making this project a reality and the feedback we have had so far has been fantastic.”

He added: “This site is at a key gateway to the city centre and it will be a fitting addition to the city council’s plans to regenerate Hull. This a landmark building and is the next step in city centre living.”

The residential space will include 249 one, two, and three-bed apartments, in four high-rise tower blocks of up to fourteen storeys each. There will also be 17 new town houses, and an internal courtyard garden area which will include 50 car parking spaces and two cycle storage units.
